Sports Illustrated Magazine

Michael Jordan, Muhammed Ali, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Toger Wood, Magic Johnson and Jack Nicklaus have all graced the cover of Sports Illustrated Magazine – Michael Jordon more than any other.  These and hundreds of other great sports stars have joined some of the best looking women in the world (models like Cheryl Tiegs, Christie Brinkley, Elle Macpherson, Rachel Hunter and Heidi Klum) to make “Sports Illustrated” the most popular magazine in the world focused on the NICHE of sports.

The focus on the publication was not to be “a” sports magazine – but “the” sports magazine.  This was not an easy process.  In fact, it took more than a decade for this magazine to become profitable. But it happened because they refuse to give up.  They found their focus and stuck to it, covering all professional sports in the US like football, baseball and basketball, plus NASCAR, ollege sports, boxing, MMA, golf, horse racing, tennis, soccer, and more.  It is also a great resource for following the Olympics.

I played soccer when I was younger.  I wasn’t very good – but the team was.  One game we were down 5 goals (a huge amount in soccer) at the half.  We were dejected, ready to quit, till we got the standard: “Never quit!” speech from our coach.  We went out and played with great passion and won the game.  I scored the winning goal – the only goal of my soccer career.

Sports Illustrated magazine had a “never quit” mentality – and now they have reached their goal.  In addition to their magazine, they have published many spin off publications inluding Sports Illustrated Kids, Sports Illustrated Almanac, SI.com, Sports Illustrated Women and Sports Illustrated on Campus.

The lesson for those looking for ezine success is this…”Never Quit.”  Set your goal for success and go for it hard and fast.
